CCS (Combined Charging System)
CCS is the open DC fast charging standard used by most non-Tesla EVs in North America (CCS1) and across Europe (CCS2). The connector adds two DC pins below a standard J1772 (US) or Type 2 (EU) AC port, letting the same physical port handle both AC and DC charging. CCS supports up to 350 kW in current implementations. With NACS adoption rolling out in North America through 2025-2026, CCS-equipped EVs will increasingly use NACS adapters for Supercharger access. Europe stays on CCS2 for the foreseeable future. CCS port shape and pin layout differ between CCS1 and CCS2, so adapters between regions are limited.
