DC Fast Charging
DC fast charging delivers direct current straight to the battery at 50 to 350 kW, bypassing the car's onboard AC inverter. A 75 kWh battery can charge from 20 to 80 percent in 18 to 30 minutes depending on the car's accept rate and the charger's power. Networks include Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, and Tesla Supercharger. Pricing in 2026 ranges 35 to 50 cents per kWh in the US, more in Europe. The high cost reflects the $100,000+ install per port plus ongoing utility demand charges. DC fast is wasteful for daily charging but essential for road trips. Speed tapers above 50-60 percent state of charge to protect the battery.
