kWh (Kilowatt-hour)
A kilowatt-hour is the unit of energy used in EV batteries and electricity bills. One kWh equals one kilowatt of power used for one hour. EV battery sizes are measured in kWh (e.g., 75 kWh). Electricity rates are quoted per kWh. Multiply battery size by rate and you get the cost of a full charge. A typical EV uses 0.28 kWh per mile, or about 3.5 miles per kWh — so a 75 kWh battery delivers around 260 miles of range. Watt-hours (Wh) are 1/1000 of a kWh and used for phones and small batteries. Megawatt-hours (MWh) are 1,000 kWh and used for grid-scale storage.
