Level 1 charging (120V)
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120-volt household outlet at about 1.4 kW. It adds about 4 miles of range per hour, so a full charge from empty takes 35-50 hours depending on battery size. Level 1 is sufficient for short daily commutes (under 30 miles round trip) and for apartment dwellers without Level 2 access. The included portable cord that comes with most EVs supports Level 1 charging. The cost per kWh is your home electricity rate, identical to Level 2 — only speed differs. Level 1 is the cheapest charging option to set up because it requires no installation, just a working outdoor outlet near where you park.
