Level 2 charging (240V)

Level 2 charging uses 240V circuits delivering 7.4 to 19.2 kW. Most home Level 2 chargers run at 7.4 or 11 kW, adding 25 to 35 miles of range per hour. A 75 kWh battery from 20 to 80 percent takes 4 to 6 hours. Level 2 is the standard for home installation, costing $1,500 to $3,500 in the US (electrician + permit + 50A circuit). Federal tax credits cover 30 percent up to $1,000. The cost per kWh equals home electricity rates, typically 16 cents in the US — the same as Level 1, just faster. For workplace or shared-building installations, demand charges and capital amortization push the per-kWh cost slightly higher.
