NACS (North American Charging Standard)
NACS is the connector originally developed by Tesla, opened up in 2022 and adopted by most North American automakers in 2023-2024 (Ford, GM, Hyundai, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, BMW, others). The connector is smaller and lighter than CCS1 and natively supports 1 MW theoretical peak. Starting 2025-2026, new non-Tesla EVs ship with NACS ports; older CCS1 vehicles use Tesla-supplied adapters to access Supercharger. NACS is North America-only — Europe remains on CCS2. The transition unifies the US fast-charging experience around Tesla's network density while keeping CCS as the legacy installed base.
